Ather Energy has signed a one-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to share road impediment data generated through its Pothole+ Alerts technology for road maintenance and infrastructure planning in Pune.

Under the agreement, Ather will share information on potholes, broken road patches and uneven road stretches with PMC. The data will help the civic body identify locations requiring attention, prioritise repair work and plan targeted interventions.

The collaboration will also enable PMC to track recurring road impediments over time and identify locations that may require further assessment or repairs.

How Ather's Pothole+ Alerts technology works

Pothole+ Alerts uses data collected from Ather's connected electric scooters as they travel on everyday routes. The technology aggregates road-related inputs from its fleet to identify road impediments and alert riders to potentially rough stretches.

The fleet-generated data will provide PMC with an additional source of information on road conditions, which can be used alongside on-ground assessments to inform maintenance planning and repair decisions.

The initiative is intended to extend the application of connected vehicle technology beyond rider alerts to civic infrastructure planning.

Ravneet S. Phokela, Chief Business Officer, Ather Energy, said the company's connected fleet generates road-condition insights that can be shared with civic authorities to support the identification of damaged stretches and repair planning.

Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram said the data would serve as an additional input for identifying road defects, prioritising repairs and monitoring recurring impediments, while complementing the corporation's existing processes.

The MoU establishes a one-year framework for sharing agreed road impediment data between the two organisations.

Powered by AtherStack 7, Pothole+ Alerts provides in-navigation warnings about rough road stretches and suggests smoother routes, allowing riders to anticipate road conditions during their journeys.
