Hyundai Motor India has shortlisted 16 startups from 980 applications for its innovation challenge, with potential collaborations to be evaluated through paid PoCs and technology validation.
Hyundai Motor India (HMIL) has shortlisted 16 startups from 980 applications received for the inaugural Hyundai Innovation Challenge 2026. The company will assess potential collaborations with the selected startups through paid proof-of-concept (PoC) projects, technology validation and commercial engagements.
Launched in April 2026, the initiative focuses on identifying startups developing technologies across 15 strategic areas, including electrification, smart mobility, connectivity, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), artificial intelligence, customer experience and next-generation vehicle technologies.
The shortlisted startups presented their solutions to the leadership teams of HMIL and Hyundai Motor India Engineering (HMIE) at the Grand Pitch Day held on October 29, 2026. The initiative is supported by Hyundai Motor Group's global open innovation platform, ZER01NE.
Hyundai Innovation Challenge focuses on 15 technology areas
The challenge was launched to identify startups developing technologies with potential applications in the mobility sector. It also provides participating companies with opportunities to engage with HMIL and HMIE, present their solutions and explore potential business collaborations.
The 15 focus areas cover electrification, smart mobility, connectivity, ADAS, artificial intelligence, customer experience and next-generation vehicle technologies.
According to HMIL, startups participated in multiple stages of evaluation, including mentoring sessions, business discussions and pitch reviews. The process was intended to assess their technological capabilities and the potential practical applications of their solutions.
Hyundai to evaluate startup collaborations through paid PoCs
Following the selection process, HMIL will assess opportunities to work with the shortlisted startups through paid PoC projects, technology validation and potential commercial engagements.
The next phase will involve evaluating the selected technologies and their applicability to future mobility requirements. The company has not disclosed the proposed investment, individual startup-wise collaboration plans or timelines for commercial deployment.
HMIL MD and CEO Tarun Garg said the initiative was intended to facilitate collaboration between established automotive companies and startups developing mobility technologies. He added that the programme had helped the company identify potential technology solutions and establish relationships with emerging innovators.
