Ather Energy Expands Charging Network to Over 5,000 Fast Chargers Across India

Ather Energy has announced a significant expansion of its electric vehicle charging infrastructure, with Ather riders now having access to over 5,000 public fast chargers across India. The network represents a combination of the company's directly operated charging stations and partnerships with other charging point operators.

The charging network includes 3,675 fast chargers operated directly by Ather Energy, along with 1,400 chargers available through partner networks. All stations are equipped with the Light Electric Combined Charging System (LECCS) connector, a standard developed by Ather and now adopted across the industry.

The infrastructure spans 395 cities across India, with strategic placement in major metropolitan areas, tier 2 and tier 3 cities, and along intercity routes. Major cities including Bengaluru, Pune, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Mumbai each feature over 100 LECCS chargers. Bengaluru leads with more than 240 chargers, while states such as Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Gujarat have the highest concentration of charging points.

The network extends beyond metropolitan areas, with cities like Nashik, Malappuram, and Indore having over 45 public fast chargers each, while Kozhikode and Coimbatore feature more than 65 chargers each. Ather has also established an international presence with over 30 fast chargers operational in Nepal and Sri Lanka.

Ravneet Singh Phokela, Chief Business Officer at Ather Energy, emphasized the importance of charging infrastructure in driving electric vehicle adoption. He noted that the company has invested consistently over seven years in building the network, not only in urban centers but increasingly along highways and intercity corridors to facilitate longer journeys.

The LECCS connector, specifically designed for electric two-wheelers and three-wheelers, was developed by Ather with its intellectual property opened in 2021 to enable industry-wide interoperability. The connector received Bureau of Indian Standards approval in October 2023 and was published as Indian Standard IS17017 in August 2023 and February 2024.

The standard has been adopted by multiple partners in the industry, including original equipment manufacturers such as Hero Vida and Matter, as well as charge point operators including Bolt, Kazam, and EVamp. Ather Grid chargers are also integrated with Google Maps, allowing customers with LECCS-compatible vehicles to easily locate and navigate to charging stations.

Founded in 2013 by Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain, Ather Energy launched its first electric scooter in 2018. The company currently offers two product lines: the performance-oriented Ather 450 series and the family-focused Ather Rizta, launched in 2024, with a total of nine variants available. As of September 30, 2025, the company had installed 4,322 fast chargers and neighborhood chargers globally, operating what it describes as the widest two-wheeler fast charging network in the country.
