Ather Energy Appoints Anjani Kumar as Chief Digital Officer

Ather Energy Limited has appointed Anjani Kumar as Chief Digital & Information Officer, the Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler manufacturer announced on May 30. Kumar will oversee the company's digital strategy and technology infrastructure across product development, manufacturing, and customer experience operations.

The appointment comes as Ather Energy expands its product portfolio and business models while integrating deeper software capabilities. Kumar will lead teams across WebTech, IT & Security, Manufacturing Execution Systems, Business Intelligence, and Digital Engineering.

Kumar brings 24 years of experience in digital transformation and IT innovation across automotive, technology, logistics, pharmaceutical, and financial services sectors. He has held senior positions at Fortune 500 companies including IBM, Nissan, Cognizant, Strides Pharma, and Tata AIG.

"As we grow rapidly as an organisation, with multiple products, new business models, and deeper software integration, the complexity naturally increases," said Swapnil Jain, Executive Director and CTO at Ather Energy. "Building robust systems with a backbone to leverage AI on top of enterprise data is going to be critical for our growth."

Kumar holds a Post Graduate degree in Marketing & Management from Kelley School of Business, Indiana University, and a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from NIT Rourkela. He has received leadership awards including 'Digital Leader of the Year' and 'India's Top CIO.'

Ather Energy was founded in 2013 by Tarun Mehta and Swapnil Jain and operates two product lines: the Ather 450 performance scooters and the Ather Rizta family convenience scooters. The company established India's first two-wheeler fast charging network, the Ather Grid.

As of March 2025, Ather has installed 3,611 fast chargers and neighborhood chargers globally, including 3,578 across India and 33 in Nepal and Sri Lanka. The company holds 309 registered trademarks, 203 registered designs, and 47 registered patents globally, with additional applications pending.

The electric two-wheeler market in India has seen growth as consumers shift toward sustainable transportation options. Ather Energy positions itself as a technology-focused manufacturer in this expanding sector, emphasizing data-driven operations and digital integration across its business functions.
