ASSOCHAM Outlines 20-Sector Policy Engagement Plan at Electric Mobility Conference

ASSOCHAM has outlined a 20-sector policy engagement framework under its ASSOCHAM 2.0 initiative, with sector-specific councils set to engage regularly with government ministries to identify industry challenges, recommend policy reforms, and support India’s manufacturing and economic ambitions.

Speaking at the ASSOCHAM National Conference on Building India as an Electric Mobility Hub for Viksit Bharat, ASSOCHAM President Nirmal Minda said each of the 20 priority sectors would be led by a chairman and co-chairman, who would meet every month to identify industry issues, prepare concise policy notes with actionable recommendations, and share global best practices with the government. He said the objective was to strengthen manufacturing, reduce import dependence, and improve India’s global competitiveness.

Minda said the initiative forms part of ASSOCHAM 2.0, which is built around five pillars: Make in India, ease of doing business, MSME growth, digitalisation, and sustainability. He added that the industry body’s renewed vision is aligned with the government’s Viksit Bharat 2047 roadmap and its goal of building a USD 35 trillion economy.

Addressing the conference, Minda also acknowledged the Centre’s policy support for the electric mobility ecosystem. He credited initiatives such as the PM E-Drive scheme, the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes for automobiles and advanced chemistry cell (ACC) batteries, and the rapid expansion of charging infrastructure with providing momentum to the sector.

He also welcomed the Delhi government's recently announced EV Policy 2.0, saying its focus on accelerating EV adoption, strengthening charging infrastructure, and promoting cleaner public transport could help position the national capital as a green mobility hub and serve as a model for other states.

Minda said ASSOCHAM had received an encouraging response from several government ministries and departments for its collaborative approach, adding that closer engagement between industry and government would help strengthen India’s manufacturing and innovation ecosystem, create employment opportunities, and enhance the country’s global competitiveness. He concluded by calling for collective efforts to make India not only one of the world’s largest electric mobility markets but also a leading global innovation and manufacturing hub.
