Shell Lubricants India conducts eye check-up camps for drivers and mechanics

Shell Lubricants India as part of its commitment, the company has started free eye check-up camps for truck drivers, mechanics and related transport staff at multiple hubs across the country including transport nagars in Delhi-NCR, Bangalore, Chennai, Ambala and Jaipur.

The company says the need to organise the camps came from the insight of a great number of road accidents occurring due to often undiagnosed and untreated vision issues.

Starting in February, Shell says it has already conducted more than 13,000 eye check-ups this year and distributed more than 9,000 free eyeglasses. In the absence of quality healthcare, a mobile population such as that of truck drivers is seldom able to prioritise their health. This is highlighted by the fact that more than half the people who received these glasses were not aware of their vision issues or were unable to get their eyesight checked on account of being always on the go.

Commenting on the initiative, Mansi tripathy, country head, Shell Lubricants, India, said, “At shell lubricants, we are determined to provide better and safer on-road solutions to all our valued partners. The eye check-up camps come as a second leg to our national health drives initiated last year. We are proud to have successfully touched 31,000 lives in 2018, and are looking forward to extending this support to a larger number of people in 2019.”

According to Shell India, the initiative has found great resonance amongst both truck drivers and mechanics. The beneficiaries were checked and given medical counsel for various eye issues like refractive errors, colour blindness and cataract. After proper examination, the participants were then provided with free glasses on the spot.
