India’s tyre makers are entering a Rs 18,000-crore investment cycle as factories run near capacity and demand shifts towards larger, premium and more specialised tyres.
For JK Tyre & Industries, the clearest argument for building more capacity was business it could not take. Over the past two years, the tyre maker says it had export orders that it could not fully service because its plants were stretched and it chose to protect its position in the domestic market.
