Made-in-India Yamaha YZF-R15 awarded India Design Mark
This recognition marks the eighth year in a row – every year since the inaugural awards in 2012 – that a Yamaha Motor product has received the I Mark.
Yamaha Motor Co has announced that the YZF-R15 motorcycle, which is produced and sold by Yamaha Motor's India subsidiary, India Yamaha Motor, has been awarded the India Design Mark (I Mark) by The India Design Council.
The YZF-R15 is a 150cc-class genuine supersport model featuring body design in the YZF-R Series lineage, sporty handling, comfortable ride, and easy urban maneuverability. This recognition marks the eighth year in a row – every year since the inaugural awards in 2012 – that a Yamaha Motor product has received the I Mark. In addition, this is the second award conferred on the YZF-R15, after its recognition in 2012.
Yamaha's design has bagged the I Mark award for its other products like the YZF-R15 (2012), Cygnus Ray (2013), Cygnus Ray Z (2014), Cygnus Alpha and FZ (2015), Yamaha Fascino and Saluto 125 (2016), Cygnus Ray ZR and YZF R3 (2017), FZ25 (2018) followed by the R15 winning it this year.
The India Design Council, an autonomous body of the government of India established under the aegis of Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, was initiated by India Design Mark in cooperation with Japan Institute of Design Promotion.
In 2018, Yamaha introduced the YZF-R15 Version 3.0 in India to a good market response. In 2019 January, the bike was upgraded with dual-channel ABS in view of the upcoming mandatory ABS norm which kicked in from April 1, 2019.
