Great Wall Motors appoints Hardeep Singh Brar as marketing and sales chief for India

Great Wall Motors, China’s largest SUV manufacturer,  which has announced its India entry with the Haval brand of SUVs, today announced the appointment of Hardeep Singh Brar as Director – Marketing & Sales for its Indian subsidiary.

Brar is a highly respected industry veteran with more than two decades of experience in a multitude of areas of automotive business operations and has worked with various international brands like Maruti Suzuki, Volkswagen, General Motors and Nissan Motors. He is a professional with strong strategy, execution & leadership skills, with the acumen for building a high performing and motivated sales team and dealer network.

Prior to joining GWM, he has led key portfolios as the director and Board member of Nissan Motor Corporation, Vice President and Board member of Chevrolet India and similar leadership roles with Volkswagen Passenger Cars & Maruti Suzuki India Limited.

Commenting at the appointment, Hardeep Singh Brar said, “I am excited to join the India operations of Great Wall Motors and eager to build and drive a vision and business strategy for the organisation in India.”

Brar is a Harvard alumnus, a mechanical engineer from Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology, Punjab and a marathoner and avid sports enthusiast.

This is GWM’s second appointment to the India leadership team, after Kaushik Ganguly was appointed a year back as Director – Strategy & Planning, when he had moved from Maruti Suzuki as the head of Product Planning.

As is known, on January 17, Great Wall Motors confirmed plans to acquire GM India’s Talegaon plant which has a manufacturing capacity of 130,000 units per annum.  The Chinese carmaker is to officially debut its Haval brand and GWM EV at the Auto Expo 2020 and also reveal its Indian market game-plan.

Great Wall Motors sells 1.06 million vehicles in 2019, up 0.69% 
Founded in 1984, Great Wall Motors is the largest SUV manufacturer in China. Currently, it owns the Haval, Great Wall EV and Great Wall Pickup brands. The products cover traditional fuel-powered, pure electric, hybrid and other new energy models, and now Great Wall Motors is actively developing hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. Great Wall Motors has more than 70 holding subsidiaries worldwide and employs nearly 70,000 people. It has R&D centres in China, India, the United States, Germany, Japan, South Korea, and Austria. It owns and builds 14 globally full-process vehicle production base or KD factories.
