Bosch India’s ABS and ESP achieves 10 million production milestone
The company achieved the milestone in 12 years since the first locally-produced ABS unit was introduced in 2010.
Bosch India has crossed a significant milestone of producing 10 million Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) units for passenger vehicles, locally at its plant located at Chakan, Pune.
The company achieved the milestone in 12 years since the first locally-produced ABS unit was introduced in 2010. It took four years to reach the one million ABS and ESP units manufacturing mark in 2014 and hit five and 10 million respectively in 2018 and 2022
The company first introduced the ABS system in India in 2005 followed by ESP in 2009. With the inauguration of its Chakan plant, it kicked off the localisation of both ABS and ESP systems. From generation 5 in 2005, generation 8 in 2008 and generation 9 in 2013, Bosch says it has continually been updating its ABS and ESP products. The latest generation 9.3 ABS and ESP units were introduced in 2019 and are manufactured at Chakan.
Avinash Chintawar, MD, Bosch Chassis Systems India said, “This milestone serves as a testament to our commitment to building an Atmanirbhar Bharat. It is a great milestone in our 100-year journey to fascinate our users with reliable, efficient, and affordable products.”
According to studies conducted by Bosch’s accident research team in India, ABS can reduce car accidents by 20 percent while ESP units can prevent up to 80 percent of car skidding incidents. ABS and ESP together, can potentially save nearly 15,000 lives on Indian roads every year.
