‘CAM Solutions for High Safety Performance in Lithium-Ion Batteries’
“Under the wrong conditions such as mechanical abuse, short circuit, overcharging and heating up can cause a lot of issues to cell components such as corrosion and fire and eventually explosions of the batteries.
In the second and final presentation on Day 1, Dr Ji-Yong Shin, Head of APAC Sales, Battery Materials, BASF who spoke about Cathode Active Material Solutions for high safety performance in Lithium-Ion batteries.
“Under the wrong conditions such as mechanical abuse, short circuit, overcharging and heating up can cause a lot of issues to cell components such as corrosion and fire and eventually explosions of the batteries. We need to understand more comprehensively the cell components. Our focus is Cathode Active Materials and our target is to develop high energy density cathode active materials not just high energy but highly safe cathode active materials which can be easily used for electric two-wheelers and electric vehicles,” said Dr Shin.
Dr Shin has worked in BASF's Battery Materials R&D, leading teams of engineers and scientists focused on designs and scale-up cathode active material for li-ion batteries since 2012. He earned his doctorate in chemistry from Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research, Stuttgart, Germany.
