Ampere Vehicles to launch new Nexus electric scooter on April 30

Greaves Electric Mobility and Ampere Vehicle are to launch the Ampere Nexus electric scooter in the Indian market on April 30.

The Nexus, which is the production-spec NXG e-scooter showcased at the Auto Expo 2023, will be the flagship model in the Ampere EV line-up and will pack in many firsts for the company.

The Ampere Nexus will have four riding modes and an LFP (Lithium Ferrous Phosphate) battery. It will also be the first Ampere e-scooter to have a front disc brake. Scoop photographs have revealed the premium-ness of the Nexus seen in elements such as footpegs that sit flush with the bodywork, and LED lighting all around.

A large digital display was also seen on the Nexus at the same sighting, although it remains to be seen whether it is a TFT or LCD unit. At the Auto Expo 2023, Ampere claimed that the NXG concept – which has evolved into the Nexus – which would have a claimed range of 120km on a single charge, although what the exact capacity is and whether that's the certified number or a real-world claim remains unclear.

The Nexus will likely use a LFP (Lithium Ferrous Phosphate) battery because Ampere claims on its website that it will have the ‘safest battery’. LFP is a chemistry that offers safer thermal characteristics, but lower energy density than its more widespread NMC counterpart.

While the Ampere Primus is priced at Rs 1,46,355 (ex-showroom, Delhi), it would be safe to say that the new Ampere Nexus will be priced above that mark albeit its positioning in India's electric two-wheeler market remains to be seen.

In FY2024, which saw a record 944,000-plus electric two-wheelers sold, combined sales of Greaves Electric Mobility and Ampere Vehicles were 55,043 units, giving it a 6% market share and fifth position after Ola Electric, TVS Motor Co, Ather Energy and Bajaj Auto. Will the new Ampere Nexus give the company a fresh charge in the marketplace? Stay tuned for the news from the launch tomorrow.
