According to a recent Reuters report, Toshiba Corp said on Monday that it had suspended operations at a plant in Oita, southern Japan after a strong earthquake hit the area at the weekend.

This is a worrying development as the Oita plant makes semiconductors used in cars and industrial machinery, as per the report.

Toshiba said in a statement that it is still analysing the impact on production does not yet know when it can restart production. According to a Toshiba Electronic Devices & Storage Corp spokesperson, the plant makes system LSI chips, around 60 percent of which are sold to carmakers and industrial machinery makers.
