Cadillac records best-ever sales in 30 years – 308,692 units in 2016, up 11%
In China, its second largest market, sales in 2016 crossed 100,000 units for the first time and reached 116,406 units, a year-on-year growth of 45.9 percent.
Cadillac has reported total sales of 308,692 vehicles in 2016, its highest-ever since 1986 and an increase of 11.1 percent from 2015. In December 2016, the company sold 37,310 vehicles globally.
In China, Cadillac sold 13,400 vehicles in December, with sales for the entire year surpassing 100,000 units for the first time and reaching 116,406 units – an increase of 45.9 percent over 2015 numbers. Sales saw an uptick in China, its second largest market, from the arrival of the locally produced XT5 SUV, which had cumulative deliveries of 28,335 units in 2016.
Growth in Cadillac’s two other top three regional markets drove the overall increase in December. Sales in the U.S. grew 3.2 percent, while sales in Canada rose 23.1 percent.
“It was a stunning year for Cadillac’s global growth in 2016,” said Cadillac president Johan de Nysschen. “Drawing more customers than any year in the past 30 is an excellent springboard for the robust product offensive from Cadillac in the coming years. While growing the business significantly and attracting a youthful and affluent demographic, we continue to elevate the aspirational character of the brand. We see this in a very rich model mix, with discerning customers opting for top models with very high specifications, driving up average transaction prices in the process."
