Electric Scooter Exports Jump 450% to 15,418 Units in April-August, Big Gains for TVS, Bajaj, Ather

Even as demand for electric scooters in the domestic scooter market rose 114 percent year on year to 791,325 units in the first five months of FY2027, exports of made-in-India scooters (ICE and electric) rose 34 percent to 358,993 units. Within the overall scooter segment, overseas shipments of zero-emission scooters jumped nearly 450 percent YoY to 15,418 units (April-August 2025: 2,807 units).

As in India, the trend reflects the growing demand for electric two-wheelers in overseas markets in the face of rising petrol prices amidst the ongoing West Asia crude oil crisis, as well as the consumer shift to environment-friendly EVs. Indian electric two-wheeler OEMs command the bulk of the imports into Nepal, which accounts for the lion's share of e-scooter shipments. 

The exports of 15,418 e-scooters in FY2027 YTD are already the highest in a fiscal year, and 77 percent more than the 8,698 units in FY2026. As a result, the share of EVs in overall scooter exports has risen to 4 percent from 1 percent in FY2026 and FY2025. Given their current growth rate, it can be surmised that electric scooter exports will surpass 35,000 units in FY2027.

TVS Motor Co, Bajaj Auto and Ather Energy – the top 3 e-scooter OEMs in India – are also the leaders in the export market in April-August 2026 commanding a 98% share. TVS iQube is the most exported model.

Having first launched its e-scooters in Nepal, Ather Energy is upping the ante in Sri Lanka, its second international market, where the EV startup has over 40 experience centres.

TVS, Bajaj Auto and Ather Energy Command 98% Share of E-Scooter Exports

As in the domestic market, TVS Motor Co, Bajaj Auto and Ather Energy are the top three OEMs in the export arena too. In the first five months of FY2027, TVS has exported 6,702 e-scooters, up 262 percent YoY, comprising 5,738 iQubes and 964 Orbiters. This gives TVS a 44 percent share of the total exports as compared to the 66 percent share it had in April-August 2025.

Bajaj Auto, with shipments of 4,818 Chetaks, up 2,194 percent YoY on a low year-ago base of 210 units, has an export market share of 31 percent. The company has a growing presence in Sri Lanka.

Ather Energy is ranked third with 3,573 units, up 382 percent YoY (April-August 2025: 742 units) and a 23 percent share. The exports comprise 1,874 units of the 450 and 1,699 units of the Rizta family e-scooter. Ather has yet to commsence exports of the recently launched Konarc. Nepal and Sri Lanka are two key markets for the company. It entered Nepal in November 2023 with the 450 Series and expanded its portfolio with the Rizta in 2025. While it has 14 experience centres and 31 fast charging points through national distributor Vaidya Energy in Nepal, Ather has 42 experience centres in Sri Lanka.

Greaves Electric Mobility, which markets the Ampere brand, exported 169 units in the past five months. These comprise the Nexus (82 units), Magnus (51 units) and the Reo (36 units).

While Hero MotoCorp shipped 135 Vida e-scooters, River Mobility exported 18 Indie e-scooters and Honda exported three units of the Activa-e in the current fiscal’s first five months.

In terms of month-wise export of e-scooters, August’s 3,575 units (up 209% YoY) come on the back of strong numbers in July (3,371 units) and June (4,135 units). In August, which is possibly the company’s best month for e-scooter exports, TVS shipped 1,930 units overseas. This total comprises 966 iQubes and 964 Orbiters, with the newest TVS EV missing out on beating the iQube by just two units. While the Bajaj Chetak (832 units) took third place, the Ather 450 (516 units) and Rizta (180 units) were ranked fourth and fifth respectively.
