Volkswagen India sells 138 Golf GTIs in June
Handsome customer response to the iconic hot hatch, launched at an introductory price of Rs 52.99 lakh, sees the bulk of the 150 units brought in as CBUs dispatched to dealers across India. Powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine, the Golf GTI develops 265 hp and 370 Nm, and zips from 0 to 100kph in a scant 5.9 seconds.
Volkswagen India, which launched the iconic Golf GTI Mk 8.5 on May 26, 2025 at an introductory price of Rs 52.99 lakh (ex-showroom), has registered wholesales of 138 units of the hot hatchback in June, its first full month of wholesales.
The Golf GTI, which is the company’s second GTI model after the now-discontinued Polo GTI, has been launched in India as a CBU (Completely Built Unit) or imported as a fully assembled unit. These 138 units are part of the first batch of 150 units, with Volkswagen India planning to bring another 100 Golf GTIs based on customer demand. From the strong market response, expect this to happen.

The new Golf GTI Mk 8.5 is engineered for pure driving pleasure. Powered by a 2.0-litre TSI turbocharged petrol engine, the GTI delivers 265 hp pf max power and 370 Nm of torque, accelerating from 0 to 100kph in just 5.9 seconds. Paired with razor-sharp handling and dynamic styling, the GTI is targeted at auto aficionados who are keen on style and horsepower.
In India, Volkswagen is offering only the fully loaded version featuring IQ. Light LED headlamps, 18-inch alloy wheels, a sunroof, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, paddle shifters, launch control, a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, sporty front seats and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).
The Golf GTI is globally celebrated for its precision, German engineering and progressive DNA that reflects its strong performance-driven characteristics. Over 37 million Volkswagen Golf cars have been sold worldwide till date. Earlier this month, VW India announced a strategic collaboration with cricketer Jasprit Bumrah, who is currently billed as the best fast bowler in the world.
In a statement of intent that aligns with its motorsport DNA, VW India has inked a strategic collaboration with ace pace bowler, Jasprit Bumrah.
In the first three months of FY2026, Volkswagen India has sold a total of 8,788 passenger vehicles comprising the 5,090 Virtus sedans, 3,449 Taigun midsize SUVs, 138 Golf GTIs and 111 Tiguan SUVs. On the export front, VW India has exported 15,110 vehicles of which includes 11,077 units of the Virtus, which gives the sedan sixth rank among the Top 10 exported passenger vehicles in Q1 FY2026.
