TVS, Bajaj, Ather, Hero Vida sell a million e-scooters in 8 months of CY2026

Combined sales of India’s top four electric two-wheeler manufacturers in the first eight months of this year have surpassed the one-million or 10 lakh-units milestone. Between January and August, market leader TVS Motor Co, Bajaj Auto, Ather Energy and Hero MotoCorp (Vida) have together sold 1.03 million units in terms of deliveries (retail sales) to customers. This makes for stellar 84% YoY growth (January-August 2025: 565,635 units).

These four OEMs are the only ones from the near-200-strong e-2W segment to have sold in excess of 100,000 units each. Ola Electric (94,307 units) is the next highest and is ranked fifth amongst the 194 players listed in the Vahan portal.

This quartet of e-2W OEMs, which has been powering the rapid growth of the segment since the past couple of years, have already sold more than their entire CY2025 sales between January-August this year. Their combined sales of 10,38,973 units are already 116,139 units more than the 922,824 units they sold in all of CY2025, which conclusively proves just how strong consumer demand has been for their zero-emission products this year. That’s not all.

Of the record 1.36 million zero-emission two-wheelers sold in this year to date, TVS Motor, Bajaj Auto, Ather Energy and Hero Vida command a 76% share, leaving 24% of the e-2W pie to the other 190 companies to fight over. This 76% market share is a substantial increase over the 66% share these Top 4 OEMs had in the year-ago period. Not surprisingly, as a result of their stellar performance, they have seen their individual market shares improve year on year as also their EV penetration levels. Let’s take a quick look at each OEM.

Of the total 1.36 million e-2Ws sold between January-August 2026, TVS, Bajaj Auto, Ather Energy and Hero Vida account for 1.03 million units or a 76% share, leaving 24% to the 190 other players.

TVS Motor Co, the e-2W market leader since April 2025, continues to have a strong grip in this segment. TVS, which recently became the highest-selling EV OEM in India with total deliveries of 1.12 million e-scooters, has clocked retail sales of 356,579 units in January-August 2026. This constitutes a 77% YoY increase (January-August 2025: 200,945 units) and gives it a 26% share of the 1.36 million e-2Ws sold to date in the domestic market this year.

TVS has achieved these numbers with two products – the iQube and Orbiter e-scooters – and has already exceeded its CY2025 sales of 315,082 units by over 41,000 units. With every fifth scooter it sold in Q1 FY2027 being electric, EVs are now a key growth driver for TVS which also markets ICE scooters like the Jupiter, NTorq and Zest. In this year to date, TVS’ highest e-2W sales were in July (55,823 units) which is also the highest monthly score for any EV maker in India. In August 2026, TVS sold 48,873 units – up 91% YoY (August 2025: 25,646 units) but down 12% month on month (July 2026: 55,823 units).

Bajaj Auto, which has a single mainstream product in the five-variant Chetak, has sold 305,226 units in the past eight months. This is a 69% YoY increase (January-August 2025: 180,209 units) and gives it a 22% e-2W market share. On August 31, the Pune-based company became the second OEM after TVS to sell over 300,000 e-scooters this year. Having sold 180,209 units in CY2025, Bajaj has sold 125,017 additional Chetaks this year and bids fair to sell another 150,000 in the September-December period.

The Bajaj Chetak’s highest monthly sales were in March (47,753 units), the first time it crossed the 40,000 mark and has since achieved it four more times: June (43,529 units), July (45,862 units) and August (41,019 units). Bajaj’s sales this August were up 235% YoY (August 2025: 12,246 units) which is a result of last year’s production-impacted sales. However, month-on-month, sales are down 11% (July 2026: 45,862 units).

Ather Energy, the firm No. 3 e-2W OEM, continues to reel in sales for its e-scooters led by the Rizta. Having just launched its most affordable model, the Konarc, the EV startup will be looking to close in on TVS and Bajaj Auto in the months to come. Ather, which also sells the 450S, 450X and 450 Apex models, has sold 229,099 e-scooters in this year to date, up 83% YoY (January-August 2025: 125,499 units) for a 17% market share compared to 15% in the year-ago period. Ather, which sold 215,034 units in CY2025, has already delivered an additional 14,065 units this year, with four months still to be counted in CY2026. In August 2026, Ather retails were 28,708 units, up 49% YoY (August 2025: 19,210 units) but this number is down 6% on July 2026’s 30,636 units.

Hero MotoCorp (Vida), which logged its highest monthly sales in July (22,989 units), has sold 148,069 units this year to register handsome 151% YoY growth (January-August 2025: 58,982 units). Strong demand for the Vida VX2 Go and Plus models, aided by the BaaS option, has helped Hero Vida snap up an 11% share in India’s booming e-2W market compared to 7% a year ago. In August 2026, Hero Vida sold 18,978 units, up 38% YoY (August 2025: 13,769 units) albeit this is down 17% month on month (July 2026: 22,989 units).

TOP 4 OEMS COMMAND 76% OF INDIA’S ELECTRIC 2W MARKET

The sheer dominance of TVS Motor Co, Bajaj Auto, Ather Energy and Hero Vida in India’s e-2W market is reflected in the fact that their cumulative sales of 1.03 million units between January and August give them a commanding 76% share of the total 1.36 million e-2Ws sold.

What is also helping them and India EV Inc overall is that governmental policy, fuel economic and consumer sentiment are all currently functioning in tandem. Electrification of mobility continues to accelerate at a rapid pace, particularly in the 2W segment.

Along with increased new product / variant availability as also the BaaS option which reduces upfront EV cost, the e2W industry’s rapid growth has been triggered by high petrol prices amid geopolitical tensions in West Asia as well as consumer hesitation around the E20 fuel transition.

July 2026 (205,622 units) delivered the highest monthly sales for this segment which is well on its way to achieve a record 2 million units for the first time in a calendar year. At the start of September, the e-2W segment is 838,974 units away from surpassing that milestone.

TVS, Bajaj Auto, Ather Energy and Hero Vida, which will each scale new highs in their annual retail sales, will be looking to capture additional demand in the upcoming festive season and enable India e-2W Inc to close in on the 2-million milestone.
