Bajaj Auto is second Indian electric scooter maker to cross 300,000 sales this year
With 302,179 e-scooters sold till August 30, Bajaj Auto becomes the second e-2W OEM after TVS Motor to achieve 300,000 retail sales this year. With four months, including the festive season, still to be counted in CY2026, Bajaj Auto is headed for record annual deliveries of 450,000 units.
In a year which is witnessing record retail sales of electric two-wheelers, Bajaj Auto has become the second electric vehicle and e-2-wheeler manufacturer in India to surpass cumulative retail sales of 300,000 units. As per Vahan data, the Pune-based manufacturer of the Chetak e-scooter and Yulu e-bikes has delivered a total of 302,179 units between January and August 30, 2026.
This marks 68% YoY growth (January-August 2025: 180,209 units) and is the first time that Bajaj Auto has sold over 300,000 units annually, beating its previous best – CY2025’s 279,685 units. This performance also makes Bajaj the second e-2W OEM and the second-fastest to the 300,000 milestone after market leader TVS Motor Co which took just seven months for the same milestone this year.
At present, TVS is 51,063 units ahead of Bajaj, having sold 353,242 units in the current year to date. Expect Ather Electric, which has sold 227,181 e-scooters YTD and has just launched the mass-market Konarc e-scooter, to be the third EV maker to surpass 300,000 retail sales sometime around end-October or early November.
Bajaj Auto’s 302,179 units sold in this year-to-date mark 68% YoY growth and the first time that the company has sold over 300,000 units annually, beating its previous best of 279,685 units in CY2025.
Bajaj Auto has a five-variant Chetak portfolio comprising the Chetak C3501 (Rs 152,140), C3502 (Rs 136,939), C3503 (Rs 124,157), C3001 (Rs 114,270) and C2501 (Rs 95,802). All prices are ex-showroom Bengaluru.
As the monthly retail sales data table above indicates, Bajaj Auto’s highest single-month sales were in March 2026 (47,753 units) which was the first time that sales crossed the 40,000 sales mark. Since then, it has achieved two more times in June (43,529 units) and in July (45,860 units).
The 302,179 Chetaks and Yulus sold in the current year to date give Bajaj Auto a 22% share of the total all-India e-2W sales of 1.34 million (13,46,571 units) electric scooters, motorcycles and mopeds sold, putting it ahead of Ather Energy (227,181 units / 17% market share) and behind TVS (353,242 units / 26% market share).
Having averaged monthly retails of 42,455 units in the June-August 2026 period, and with the festive season to kick off soon, expect Bajaj Auto to add another 125,000 to 150,000 units in the next four months. This will take the company’s total e-2W retail sales to a record 425,000-450,000 units in CY2026, ensuring it retains its No. 2 rank after TVS which is set to become the first Indian EV OEM to sell half-a-million units in the domestic market this year. It will also be well ahead of Ather Energy, which is expected to register record retail sales of an estimated 350,000 units this year.
Nevertheless, both Bajaj Auto and TVS Motor, which are each scaling new annual sales highs this year, will be keenly watching the market response to the five-variant Ather Konarc, launched on August 29 with a 100-200km range and targeting value-conscious buyers. The base Konarc S100 priced at Rs 100,000 (ex-showroom) costs Rs 4,198 more than the Bajaj Chetak C2501 (Rs 95,802) and Rs 4,876 more than the base TVS iQube 2.3 kWh variant (Rs 95,124 ex-showroom) and Rs 3,650 more than the TVS Orbiter (Rs 103,650 ex-showroom).
Hero MotoCorp (Vida), the fourth-ranked e-2W OEM, too will be glued to the customer response to the Ather Konarc because of its Vida VX2 (Rs 73,850-94,800) and Vida V2 (Rs 100,500-140,000). Watch this space as we bring you all the action in the exciting world of electric 2Ws where value-conscious customers are rapidly voting for the lower total cost of ownership of EVs compared to IC-engine petrol two-wheelers.
