With cumulative January-July 2025 retails of 7,054 units, the e-CV industry is set to drive past last year’s 10,076 units soon. While market leader Tata Motors’ share has fallen to 29% from 62% a year ago, Mahindra’s has jumped to 18% from 7% in the year-ago period.

The electric commercial vehicle (e-CV) industry in India seems to be in good nick this year, having clocked 1,000-plus unit retail sales for three straight months: May to July 2025. July 2025 sales of 1,248 units are the second highest monthly sales after the FAME II-ending March 2024’s 2,156 units.
July’s robust sales take cumulative CY2025’s first seven-month cumulative sales to 7,054 units, up 10% on year-ago e-CV customer deliveries of 6,423 units. Furthermore, this total is 70% of the 10,076 units sold in all of CY2024, indicating that India e-CV Inc is well on its way to set a new annual sales benchmark this year.
As it did in CY2024, the light goods carrier sub-segment continues to be the growth driver in the current year. The 4,403 such units (e-LCVs) sold between January and July 2025 are a 15% YoY increase and account for 62% of the e-CVs sold, up from the 59% a year ago. This has come about as a result of a rollout of a fair number of new models as well as being the eco-friendly option for intra-city and inter-city operations.
The passenger transport (bus) category with 2,427 units saw flat sales compared to the 2,434 units sold in January-July 2024, which results in its share of e-CV sales dropping to 34% from 28% a year ago. The heavy goods carrier segment saw a 22% YoY increase to 158 units from 130 a year ago. The electric van category sold 66 units, 48 units more than a year ago.
TATA MOTORS LEADS BUT MAHINDRA ZEO WITNESSES RAPID GROWTH
A quick dive into the past seven months’ e-CV retail stats and the Top 10 OEMs reveals that market leader Tata Motors has sold 2,035 units, down by a sizeable 49% YoY (January-July 2024: 3,990 units). As a result of 1,955 fewer units being sold YoY, Tata Motors’ e-CV market share has fallen to 29% from 62% a year ago.
This can be attributed to the 36% YoY decline in Tata’s e-LCV sales of 1,940 units, down from the 3,047 units in the January-July 2024 period. It is to be noted that Tata Motors had sold a record 1,434 e-LCVs in the FAME II-ending month of March 2024 which contributed to the company’s score of 1,659 e-CVs that month.
Tata’s small e-CV (e-LCV) portfolio comprises the Ace EV, Ace EV 1000, Ace Pro EV and Intra EV. The Tata Ace EV, designed for last-mile cargo deliveries and powered by a 21.3 kWh LFP battery, has a driving range of 154km on a single charge. The Intra EV is targeted at applications in the FMCG, e-reefer and waste management sectors. Tata Motors’ CV portfolio also has the heavy duty E28K, Ultra E12 goods transporter and the Ultra E9 for intra-city passenger transport.
In comparison, the Mahindra Group, which sells its e-CVs – the Mahindra Zeo electric mini-truck – through Mahindra & Mahindra and Mahindra Last Mile Mobility, has witnessed a strong showing this year. The 1,245 e-CVs delivered to customers are a 188% YoY increase (January-July 2024: 433 units). This sees M&M’s e-CV market share jump to 18% from 7% a year ago. The Mahindra Zeo has a real-world range of 160km per charge, offered with a 7-year or 150,000km warranty.
Switch Mobility, the electric CV arm of Ashok Leyland, has also delivered a strong performance. With 870 units, it has posted 266% YoY growth (January-July 2024: 238 units). Of this total, 341 units are from the e-LCV category, up 184% YoY (January-July 2024: 120 units).
PMI Electro Mobility, which manufactures a wide range of city buses, has sold 591 units in the past seven months to register 88% YoY growth. This gives it the No. 4 rank on the e-CV ladder-board.
Fifth in the Top 10 list is Olectra Greentech, which currently has over 1,900 of its zero-emission buses plying across India, sold 455 buses between January-July this year, up 45 percent.
JBM Auto, which manufactures the EcoLife range of electric buses, sold 437 units in the perod under review, down 4% (January-July 2024: 453 units).
Euler Motors, which produces the ADAS-equipped Storm EV T1500T, which has a 1,500 kg payload and 140-plus kilometre range, and the LongRange 200, has delivered 237 units of these two e-LCVs n the past seven months.
The Eicher Group’s VE Commercial Vehicles, whose e-CV portfolio includes the Eicher Pro 2055 EV and Pro X small trucks which cater to the e-commerce, FMCG, parcel and courier, and cold chain segments, has sold 236 e-CVs between January and July this year, up 23% YoY.
EKA Mobility (Pinnacle Mobility Solutions) is ranked ninth with 212 units, up 175% YoY. The company has both heavy-duty electric trucks (EKA 55T, 7T) and LCVs (EKA 1.5T).
Wrapping up the Top 10 list is Tivolt Electric Vehicles, the EV arm of the Chennai-based Murugappa Group and a subsidiary of TI Clean Mobility, formed with a mandate to address the electric small commercial and LCV segment. The company has sold 63 units of the Eviator e-SCV, which has a gross vehicle weight of 3.5 tonnes, develops maximum power of 80 kW and torque of 300 Nm. According to the company, the zero-emission Eviator has a certified range of 245km and a real-world range of 170km pear charge.
