TVS Motor Co, which is riding a wave of demand for its two-wheelers across the scooter, motorcycle and moped segments, sold a record 1.14 million units in Q1 FY2027, up 25% YoY (Q1 FY2026: 913,946 units). While scooter sales (639,844 units, up 25%) including a record 126,716 EVs accounted for 56% of TVS 2W dispatches, motorcycle sales (363,310 units, up 11%) had a 32% share with mopeds delivering the balance (140,970 units, up 29%).
TVS Ronin Q1 FY2027 Sales: 28,619 Units, Up 97% YoY
A quick look at the model-wise sales splits of TVS’ motorcycle portfolio for Q1 FY2027 reveals that the 225cc-engined Ronin has been among the products which registered strong demand. At 28,619 units and 97% YoY growth (Q1 FY2026: 14,530 units), demand nearly doubled. Sales rose month on month from April (8,981 units), May (9,481 units) and June (10,157 units). This performance gave the Ronin an 8% share of TVS bike wholesales in the April-June 2026 quarter, doubling its year-ago share of 4 percent.
In the overall 200-250cc segment, which saw total sales of 78,880 units, up 107% YoY (Q1 FY2026: 38,157 units), the Ronin had a 36% share just below the Bajaj Pulsar, which is one of the four models Bajaj Auto has in this category.
Shift Toward Higher-Powered Bikes Fuels 200-250cc Growth
This growing demand can be attributed to the consumer shift taking place in the motorcycle market towards higher-powered bikes. While the 75-110cc (1.41 million units, up 9%) and 110-125cc (898,430 units, up 4%) segments saw single-digit growth, there was double-digit growth in the 150-200cc (370,357 units, up 13%), 200-250cc (78,880 units, up 107%) and 250-350cc (327,697 units, up 49%) albeit the volumes are lower on these higher-priced machines compared to the frugal, petrol-sipping 100-110cc cousins. Demand in the 350-500cc segment fell 38% to 16,707 units and in the 500-800cc segment by 8% to 11,482 units.
TVS Ronin Design, Engine Specs and Price
As per Autocar India, the TVS Ronin is a relaxed, leisure-oriented modern-retro motorcycle that doesn’t fit into a single category. It draws inspiration from cruisers, scramblers, flat trackers, and cafe racers, but leans more towards a cruiser. What really makes the seven-variant TVS Ronin bike stand out is its ride experience. The upright riding posture, wide handlebars, and comfortable seat make it easy to ride for long durations. However, on the highway, performance feels slightly limited at higher speeds, which means the Ronin is more suited for urban and relaxed touring use, rather than aggressive riding.
The Ronin, which is powered by a 225.9cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine, develops 20.4hp and 19.93 Nm of torque and has a top speed of around 120kph, although it cruises comfortably between 80kph and 100kph. Despite its engine and output, the bike offers decent mileage of an ARAI-certified 42kpl, while in real-world conditions, the fuel economy typically ranges between 35kpl and 43kpl, depending on riding habits and weather. The 14-litre fuel tank delivers a practical riding range of roughly 490km to 600km. Pricing starts at Rs 129,290 for the Base Lightning Black variant and goes up to Rs 160,000 for the Top Nimbus Grey variant (ex-showroom).
The 225cc TVS Ronin maintains its strong growth in the upcoming three quarters of FY2027, it will surpass the 100,000 milestone for the first time since its launch.
TVS Ronin Cumulative Sales Cross 1.75 Lakh Mark
Cumulative sales of the TVS Ronin in the domestic market have crossed the 150,000 mark. Between FY2024 and Q1 FY2027, total wholesales are 160,952 units. FY2026 with 80,518 units was the best fiscal but FY2027 with 28,619 units has already achieved 36% of that total, with nine months still to be factored in the current fiscal year. On the export front, as per SIAM data, 14,326 units have been exported between FY2024 and Q1 FY2027. The highest overseas shipments were in FY2025 (5,179 units).
Given the strong demand for this 225cc premium motorcycle, the TVS Ronin looks well set to achieve 100,000 sales for the first time in a fiscal in FY2027. The Ronin – the Japanese word for a samurai without a master – which is TVS Motor Co’s first attempt at a relaxed, leisure-riding, modern-retro sort of motorcycle seems to be finally finding its place in a motorcycle market which is upgrading to higher cubic capacity.
