Noida-headquartered Dutch semiconductor design and manufacturing major NXP Semiconductors, which is a key technology player in the space of connectivity solutions for embedded applications, commissioned a new state-of-the-art Systems and Silicon Innovation lab at its R&D campus in Bengaluru’s Manyata Tech Park, on January 19.

The lab was inaugurated by the Union Minister of State for Electronics & IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, who also dons the hat of being the state’s minister for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. NXP Semiconductor’s latest facility will be utilised to design, verify and validate NXP’s technologies in the areas of cybersecurity, connectivity, sensing and processing.

The dedicated development and engineering lab will build market-specific system solutions in automotive, industrial, IoT and areas of consumer application. The company showcased its connectivity products like radar, ultra-wide band (UWB), near-field communication (NFC) and DRM solutions at the inauguration event in Bengaluru. It also displayed its automotive-specific solutions like battery-management system (BMS), ADAS and other emerging technologies that are empowering OEMs with their EV and safety growth endeavours.

The Union Minister interacted with NXP-mentored start-ups during the inauguration ceremony and encouraged them to continue working towards strengthening the semiconductor ecosystem in the country while leveraging government incentives and industry partnerships.

“We would like NXP Semiconductors to continue with the good work, working closely with start-ups and partner with the local ecosystem to co-create solutions for the India market,” Chandrasekhar said.

Hitesh Garg, India Country Manager, NXP Semiconductors, said, “The team at NXP India consistently emphasises on creating cutting-edge solutions that are secure and safe for the end users. We are happy to announce the launch of our new R&D lab that will push innovation in the semiconductor industry in India.”

“Government initiatives like Design-Linked Incentive (DLI) schemes are laying special emphasis on strengthening the start-up ecosystem in the country, and it is the need of the hour for global corporations to work towards corporate-start-up collaborations to give momentum to newer IP and SoC areas. We must cater to the specific needs of the Indian ecosystem,” Garg added
