Waaree Energies Secures ALMM List-II Approval for Solar Cells
India's largest solar module manufacturer receives government approval for 5.25GW solar cell capacity, comprising advanced N-type TOPCon and P-type PERC bifacial technologies at its Gujarat facility.
Waaree Energies Limited has received approval under the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy's Approved List of Models and Manufacturers (ALMM) List-II for its solar photovoltaic cells, marking an expansion of the company's domestic manufacturing credentials.
The approval, announced through MNRE's 3rd Revision of ALMM List-II on December 15, 2025, covers Waaree's solar cell manufacturing facility in Degam, Chikhli, Navsari, Gujarat. The facility has been listed with an annual approved capacity of 5.25 gigawatts, comprising 3,923 megawatts of N-type TOPCon cells and 1,328 megawatts of P-type PERC bifacial cells.
According to Sunil Rathi, Executive Director at Waaree, the ALMM List-II inclusion represents progress in domestic backward integration across India's solar value chain. The company views the development as reducing import dependence while providing developers and engineering, procurement, and construction firms with enhanced supply continuity and policy compliance assurance.
The listing positions Waaree as an integrated cell-to-module supplier within India's solar manufacturing sector. The company already maintains presence on ALMM List-I for solar modules, and the cell approval adds another layer to its manufacturing portfolio.
Waaree operates with a global solar PV module capacity of approximately 22.3 gigawatts and solar cell capacity reaching 5.4 gigawatts. Founded in 1990 and headquartered in Mumbai, the company maintains operations across India and over 25 countries, offering products and services spanning solar panels, inverters, EPC services, green hydrogen solutions, battery storage systems, and related infrastructure.
The ALMM framework serves as a quality assurance mechanism for solar products in India's renewable energy sector, with manufacturers seeking inclusion to participate in government-backed solar projects and meet domestic content requirements.
