Ashok Leyland, the Indian flagship of the Hinduja Group, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with PT Pindad, Indonesia's state-owned defence and industrial equipment manufacturer. The agreement was signed at Pindad's headquarters in Bandung on Tuesday.

The partnership will focus on the joint development and manufacturing of electric buses and defence vehicles designed to meet Indonesia's mobility and national security requirements. The collaboration combines Ashok Leyland's expertise in commercial electric vehicle platforms and defence mobility solutions with Pindad's engineering capabilities and local manufacturing infrastructure.

The MoU was formalised in the presence of Prof. Sigit P. Santosa, Chief Executive Officer of PT Pindad, Mr. Amandeep Singh, President of International Operations, Defence, LCV & PSB at Ashok Leyland, and Lord Tariq, Advisor to the Board at Hinduja Auto.

The agreement aligns with Indonesia's initiatives to advance sustainable transportation and modernise defence capabilities through energy-efficient mobility and locally produced defence platforms.

Amandeep Singh stated that Ashok Leyland's subsidiary, Switch Mobility, has developed a range of electric buses with global appeal. He noted that the partnership with Pindad will enable the development of products specifically suited to Indonesia's terrain, infrastructure, and operational requirements.

Ashok Leyland is a global leader in commercial vehicles, electric mobility, and defence mobility solutions, operating in over 50 countries. Switch Mobility, its subsidiary, manufactures electric buses and electric light commercial vehicles.

PT Pindad is Indonesia's leading state-owned manufacturer of defence and industrial equipment, specialising in armoured vehicles, tactical platforms, and advanced defence technologies.
