In a bid to further strengthen its product – and scooter portfolio – India Yamaha Motor has launched the Alpha today at the Auto Expo. The smart-looking scooter is powered by a four-stroke, 113cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine which develops 7bhp at 7500rpm and maximum torque of 0.82kgm at 5000rpm. The engine is the same unit which powers the existing Yamaha Ray scooter siblings.
The Alpha, which has a telescopic suspension up front and a monoshock at the rear, will be available with five colour options (black, grey, white, red and magenta) and is priced at Rs 49,518 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The company has sold a total of 364,150 units between April-December 2013, posting a year-on-year growth of 37.32 percent. While the Ray and Ray Z have made solid contributions to these numbers, the company is pinning its hope on the Alpha giving its sales a fillip this year.
