The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) has opened technical bids for production-linked incentives (PLI) for the manufacture of 10 GWh of Advanced Chemistry Cells (ACC), as confirmed by Dr. Hanif Qureshi, Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Heavy Industries.

Qureshi said that MHI has opened technical bids on April 23, where seven Indian players will participate for the development of a 10 GWh indigenous capacity of Advanced Chemistry Cell manufacturing (ACC).

The seven technical bids are from well-known firms in the zero-emission technologies sector and comprise ACME Cleantech Solutions, Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies, Anvi Power Industries, JSW Neo Energy, Reliance Industries, Lucas TVS, and Waaree Energies.

After much deliberation and bidding, the Indian government issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) on January 24, 2024, to establish ACC manufacturing facilities with a total capacity of 10 GWh and a maximum budgetary outlay of Rs 3,620 crore. These bids were received in response to a global tender for the re-bidding of Production Linked Incentives (PLI) for the manufacture of 10 GWh of ACC. They are part of the government of India's plans to boost localisation efforts in EV manufacturing and grid-scale energy storage in India.

In May 2021, the Cabinet had approved the technology-agnostic PLI Scheme on 'National Programme on Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage,' which is now finalised and ready for implementation.
