Keynote address by Venkatram Mamillapalle at Vehicle Lightweighting Conference

Autocar Professional hosted the second edition of its annual Vehicle Lightweighting Conference on October 18 and 19 which was kickstarted by the Country CEO and MD of Renault India Operations - Venkatram Mamillapalle.

Mamillapalle stressed upon the need for corporations to outline their ESG targets and measure them through individual KPIs to track progress on sustainability. He also cited Renault's examples of the use of alternative materials such as high-strength and advanced high-strength steel in the exterior body shell of vehicles to lower weight, as well as the use of thermoplastics, cardboard and polyurethane in the interior to achieve weight savings.

Mamillapalle said that continued research and adoption of lighter materials in the automotive industry remains a critical factor for evolving towards sustainable and safer vehicles.
