Automotive Cybersecurity Must Extend Beyond OEMs, Say Spark Minda, Vector

As vehicles become more connected and software-defined, cybersecurity is emerging as a critical responsibility across the automotive supply chain, extending from vehicle manufacturers to Tier 1, Tier 2 and Tier 3 suppliers.

In Episode 5 of Autocar Professional's Cybersecurity Dialogues, Dr Suresh D, Group CTO, Spark Minda, and Basavaraj Patil, Director, Embedded Solutions, Vector Informatik, discuss why cybersecurity needs to be integrated into vehicle architecture from the design stage.

The executives examine the importance of developing in-house cybersecurity expertise, securing electronic control units and embedded software, and managing vulnerabilities throughout a vehicle's lifecycle. They also discuss ISO/SAE 21434, UNECE R155 and R156, threat analysis and risk assessment, secure over-the-air updates and intrusion detection systems.

With Indian automotive suppliers expanding their global ambitions, the conversation explores how cybersecurity engineering capabilities, regulatory compliance and secure product development could strengthen their competitiveness in international markets.
