Volvo Trucks India Launches FMX Edge Off-Road Dump Truck for Mining Sector

Volvo Trucks India has introduced a new off-road dump truck, the Volvo FMX Edge, aimed at the domestic mining sector. The heavy-duty vehicle was unveiled on Tuesday at the company's facility located in Hoskote, Bengaluru.

The newly introduced vehicle expands upon the manufacturer's existing FMX platform, which includes the FMX500 8x4 model that has deployed more than 3,000 units in Indian mining operations over the past five years. The FMX Edge features a 31.2 cubic metre SAE heap body capacity and a 2.8 metre wide body configuration. These dimensions are engineered to improve loading compatibility with larger, high-capacity excavators and optimize overburden movement in modern mining environments.

The vehicle incorporates updated safety and stability systems alongside features intended to manage full-load operations in varied terrains. Management noted that the truck was developed using operational data collected directly from Indian mine sites, project teams, and maintenance crews to address fleet predictability and driver availability.

Volvo Trucks operations in the country are managed via VE Commercial Vehicles Limited, which is a joint venture established in July 2008 between the Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Limited.
