Volvo Group and Daimler Truck Launch Coretura to Develop Unified Software Platform for CVs
Coretura will develop a common operating system and software platform for trucks and buses, enabling over-the-air updates and application-based services, the Volvo Group said.
Volvo Group and Daimler Truck have formally launched Coretura AB, a joint venture aimed at developing a standardized, software-defined vehicle platform for commercial vehicles. Based in Gothenburg, Sweden, Coretura began operations in June 2025 after securing regulatory approvals.
The joint venture follows agreements signed in October 2024. Coretura will develop a common operating system and software platform for trucks and buses, enabling over-the-air updates and application-based services. It will also manage the specification and sourcing of high-performance control units for data processing.
The venture will start with approximately 50 employees and is expected to grow gradually. Johan Lundén, formerly with Volvo Group, has been appointed CEO. The executive management team includes representatives from both parent companies.
Daimler Truck CEO Karin Rådström said the venture marks a clear move toward software development in commercial vehicles. Volvo Group CEO Martin Lundstedt said Coretura supports the company’s goal to advance connectivity and operational efficiency.
Though jointly investing in Coretura, both companies will remain competitors in products and services. The venture is also open to collaborations with suppliers and partners. First products are expected to be deployed by the end of the decade.
