Volkswagen Passenger Cars India has reported a significant delivery event in Kerala, coinciding with the first day of the Malayalam New Year, known as Chingam. The company states that it delivered 101 cars to customers on this day.

The event took place across Kerala and involved the delivery of various Volkswagen models. According to the company, this delivery event reflects the brand's presence in the Kerala market.

In addition to the deliveries, Volkswagen Kerala reports receiving 55 bookings for its recently introduced Onam Edition cars, which include special versions of the Taigun and Virtus models. The company states that these bookings were made within 10 days of the edition's launch.

Volkswagen indicates that the introduction of these special edition models is part of its strategy to align with local preferences and traditions. The company suggests that the bookings and deliveries demonstrate customer interest in its products in the Kerala region.

The timing of this event and the introduction of region-specific editions appear to be part of Volkswagen's efforts to engage with the local market during a culturally significant period.

Volkswagen has confirmed that the Taigun Onam Edition model is based on the higher-spec GT Line variant, which means it shares the same features and safety kit. Highlights include the all-black interior and exterior, including black 17-inch ‘Cassino’ alloy wheels, the 8-inch digital driver display, a 10-inch infotainment touchscreen, a powered sunroof, ventilated front seats and automatic climate control. Meanwhile, the Virtus Onam is based on the Highline variant, and shares nearly all the features seen on the Taigun Onam, but for the sunroof.

Considering their prices, the Onam Editions cost the same compared to the variants on which they are based. The Onam Edition models are only available with the 115hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, which comes with 6-speed manual and automatic gearbox options.
