The program, operating under Visteon University, is designed to provide hands-on training, real-world experiences, and mentorship from industry professionals to engineering students. The initiative comes as India positions itself to become the world's third-largest economy and expand its role in global engineering services.
"While India has the largest number of engineering colleges in the world, there is immense scope for the curriculum to be ahead of the innovation curve in line with the dynamic needs of the automotive industry," said Sivakumar Songappan, Vice President of Software Development Program Delivery at Visteon.
The SCHOLAR program employs what the company calls a "Classroom-to-Cockpit" learning model, focusing on students in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities. The curriculum covers advanced tools, technologies, and simulation projects related to connected car systems, infotainment solutions, and cockpit software development.
According to Visteon, the program has attracted significant interest since its launch, with over 4,200 students engaged and more than 2,500 registrations received. The company views this as evidence of strong demand for industry-aligned education among engineering students.
Rahul Singh, Vice President of Software Engineering for Infotainment and Cockpit Software at Visteon, emphasized the program's focus on bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements. "We are committed to democratizing access to cutting-edge learning programs, fast-tracking the pace of absorption, and deepening the relevance to real-world challenges," Singh stated.
The program targets areas including connected vehicle technology, infotainment systems, and cockpit software solutions—sectors where Visteon specializes. The company aims to develop a pipeline of skilled engineers familiar with automotive software development practices.
Visteon Corporation, headquartered in Michigan, operates in 17 countries and recorded approximately $3.87 billion in annual sales in 2024. The company secured $6.1 billion in new business commitments during the same period.
Visteon specializes in digital cockpit technologies, advanced displays, AI-enhanced software solutions, and electric vehicle architecture systems for passenger vehicles, commercial transportation, and two-wheelers.
The SCHOLAR initiative represents Visteon's strategy to strengthen India's position as a global automotive software development hub while addressing what the company identifies as a talent readiness gap in the engineering education sector.
