Uno Minda Group signs technical license agreement with China’s StarCharge Energy
The Gurugram-based Tier-1 supplier plans to manufacture and sell wall-mounted AC chargers for electric vehicles under this agreement.
Gurugram-headquartered Tier-1 major Uno Minda Group has entered into a technical license agreement with China’s StarCharge Energy, which is a key player in electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure and micro-grid solutions. The company operates in 67 countries, with a manufacturing footprint spread across key markets, including Vietnam, China, and the USA.
With the partnership, Uno Minda Group plans to manufacture and sell Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE), and aims to further strengthen its EV-specific product portfolio for the passenger vehicle market in India. The EVSE portfolio will primarily comprise wall-mounted AC chargers, typically sold along with EVs, and designed for convenient home charging of these vehicles.
The Indian component supplier believes that as demand for EVs continues to be on the upswing, the need for reliable and efficient EV charging solutions becomes paramount, and consequently, most EV charging demand globally has been met at home or at work and not by publicly accessible chargers, according to the International Energy Agency.
Uno Minda Group, in partnership with StarCharge Energy, aims to revolutionise such home charging solution paving the way for faster cleaner mobility adoption in India.
According to Nirmal Minda, CMD, Uno Mind Group, “Uno Minda is proud to announce the expansion of its EV portfolio into the passenger vehicle segment through this strategic partnership with StarCharge, a global leader in EV charging solutions. For decades, Uno Minda has consistently demonstrated a deep understanding of emerging automotive technologies and a commitment to their successful localization in India. This collaboration further strengthens our dedication to 'Make in India' and to accelerate the nation's transition to a sustainable and electrified future.”
Shao Danwei, Chairlady, StarCharge, said; “We are pleased to partner with Uno Minda to pursue EV charging systems and solutions opportunities in India. We are optimistic about the outlook for EV adoption in India and believe there will be tremendous opportunities for home charging solutions. As a leading global player in the EV charging space, with extensive capabilities across the entire value chain, we are confident in our ability to combine our expertise with Uno Minda's to develop cost-competitive and user-friendly solutions for the Indian electric vehicle market.
