Uno Minda to Expand Into Four-Wheeler Passenger Vehicle Seating Market
Firm Allocates ₹320 Crore for New Greenfield Manufacturing Site in Maharashtra to Supply Domestic Automakers.
Automotive component supplier Uno Minda Limited has announced a commercial expansion into the assembly of complete four-wheeler passenger vehicle seating systems. To support the production rollout, the company's board of directors has approved a capital expenditure plan of approximately ₹320 crore to establish a greenfield manufacturing facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The upcoming plant is projected to begin commercial operations by the fourth quarter of the 2028 fiscal year.
The industrial project is being executed through Uno Minda Tachi-S Seating Private Limited, an established joint venture operation partner with Tokyo-headquartered automotive seating manufacturer Tachi-S Company Limited. The two entities originally entered into a partnership agreement in September 2022 during an initial production phase that focused primarily on the manufacture and supply of passenger vehicle seat recliners. This secondary phase transitions the joint entity into assembling complete internal seating architectures to capture higher content-per-vehicle value lines across domestic supply networks.
The joint venture has already secured an anchor supply contract from a major automotive original equipment manufacturer (OEM) ahead of the factory grounding, according to the company. Ravi Mehra, Managing Director of Uno Minda Limited, stated that the expansion into integrated four-wheeler seating systems forms part of a broader corporate push to deepen the supplier's volume potential in premium vehicle cabin components.
