Toyota Kirloskar Motor unveiled the Urban Cruiser Ebella today, marking the automaker's entry into India's electric vehicle market with a badge-engineered version of the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara. The electric midsize SUV will be available with two lithium-iron phosphate battery options: 49 kWh producing 106 kW power and 189 Nm torque, and 61 kWh producing 128 kW power and 189 Nm torque. The 61 kWh variant delivers a maximum range of 543 km on a single charge as certified by Automotive Research Association of India.
Toyota India's Sales Momentum Driven by Rebadged Models
TKM's rebadging strategy under its partnership with Maruti Suzuki has become central to the company's India operations, with rebadged models accounting for over 53 percent of total passenger vehicle dispatches in the first nine months of FY2026.
Toyota reported total sales of 388,801 units in CY2025, marking 19 percent growth over 326,329 units in CY2024. The Innova Hycross has been the company's best-selling model, while the Urban Cruiser Hyryder ranks as the highest-selling rebadged vehicle. The midsize SUV crossed the 200,000 sales milestone in December 2025. This performance propelled it to the 15th position among India's top utility vehicles, rising four ranks from its 19th position in CY2024.
Toyota's other rebadged models include the Glanza hatchback (Maruti Baleno), which sold 42,888 units in FY2026 to date, and the Urban Cruiser Taisor (Maruti Fronx) with 26,726 units.
India's Electric Vehicle Market Gains Traction in 2025
The Urban Cruiser EV enters an electric vehicle market that recorded significant growth in calendar year 2025, with total EV sales reaching 2.3 million units and accounting for 8 percent of all new vehicle registrations in India, according to Vahan Portal data.
Among the Urban Cruiser EV's direct competitors, the Hyundai Creta Electric sold 6,726 units after its January 2025 launch, capturing 4 percent market share. The segment witnessed new entrants, including VinFast, which sold 826 units in approximately three months following its market entry with the locally assembled VF6 and VF7 electric SUVs.
Technical Specifications and Key Differences
The Toyota Urban Cruiser EV shares the e-Vitara's platform and powertrain architecture but introduces distinct design elements and potential feature variations.
The Urban Cruiser EV differentiates itself from the e-Vitara through a redesigned front fascia featuring Toyota's signature Hammerhead design and sleeker LED headlights with DRLs. At the rear, it features different LED light signatures in the wraparound taillights. The interior features a dual-screen setup comprising a 10.25-inch digital driver display and a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system paired with JBL speakers.
It also features ventilated front seats with a 10-way powered driver seat, a single-pane fixed glass roof, and a 360-degree camera with front and rear parking sensors. Safety features include Level 2 ADAS technology, seven airbags with ESC, traction control, and ABS with EBD.
Exterior design elements comprise Toyota's hammerhead front expression, dual-tone color options, premium LED headlamps and taillamps, rain-sensing wipers, and 18-inch alloy wheels. The vehicle has a turning radius of 5.2 meters and features aerodynamic design with glossy black lower bumper finish.
The Urban Cruiser Ebella is offered in five monotone colors—Enticing Silver, Café White, Sportin Red, Gaming Grey, and Bluish Black—and four dual-tone options featuring Enticing Silver, Sportin Red, Café White, and Land Breeze Green.
The e-Vitara achieved a 5-star Bharat NCAP safety rating, which is expected to benefit the Urban Cruiser EV given their shared platform and structure.
Ownership benefits include an eight-year battery warranty, Battery-as-a-Service option, and Assured Buy Back program offering up to 60 percent residual value after three years. The company has equipped 500-plus BEV-enabled service touchpoints with BEV diagnostic tools and infrastructure, staffed by 2,500-plus BEV-certified technicians offering 45-minute express maintenance and 24x7 nationwide roadside assistance.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor operates manufacturing facilities at Bidadi with total installed production capacity of 342,000 units annually. The first plant, established in October 1997, has capacity of 132,000 units, while the second plant, operational since December 2010, has capacity of 210,000 units. Current portfolio includes Innova HyCross, Innova Crysta, Fortuner, Legender, Camry Hybrid, Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Hilux, Glanza, Rumion, Urban Cruiser Taisor, Vellfire, and LC 300.
Bookings are open from today at Rs 25,000, and prices are likely to be announced in the coming weeks.
