Toyota Innova HyCross Reaches 2-Lakh Sales Mark in India

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) announced on Wednesday that cumulative sales of its Innova HyCross multi-purpose vehicle have crossed the 2-lakh (200,000) unit mark in India, roughly three and a half years after the model's commercial debut. The company said the milestone reflects growing consumer acceptance of self-charging hybrid technology in the country's premium MPV segment.

The Innova HyCross was introduced in November 2022, succeeding the long-running Innova Crysta. Built on Toyota's New Global Architecture (TNGA) platform, it marked a significant shift in the model's powertrain strategy, moving away from the diesel-dominant profile of its predecessor toward a hybrid-electric configuration. Since its launch, TKM has positioned the vehicle as the centrepiece of its electrification push in the Indian market.

The HyCross is powered by a fifth-generation self-charging strong hybrid electric system paired with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine. In its primary hybrid configuration, the combined system produces 137 kW (186 PS), while select non-hybrid variants of the same engine deliver 129 kW (174 PS). TKM states that the vehicle operates in electric-only mode approximately 60 percent of the time under standard driving conditions, a figure derived from testing conducted by the International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT).

The model's ex-showroom pricing starts at ₹19.53 lakh. Select hybrid variants are covered by an eight-year warranty on the self-charging hybrid battery. The Innova HyCross has also received a five-star safety rating under the Bharat New Car Assessment Programme (BNCAP), the government-backed vehicle safety testing initiative.

Sabari Manohar, Executive Vice President for Sales, Service and Used Car Business at TKM, described the milestone as a reflection of growing customer trust in hybrid technology. He added that the company would continue to focus on market-relevant products and ownership experience improvements. TKM did not disclose a specific timeline for reaching the next sales milestone.

Standard and optional equipment on the Innova HyCross includes powered Ottoman second-row seats, ventilated front seats, dual-zone air conditioning, a power tailgate, and over 65 connected features. The vehicle also integrates Toyota Safety Sense, an active safety suite covering functions such as pre-collision warning and lane departure alerts. TKM's after-sales programme, branded T CARE, covers services across the ownership cycle under sub-brands including T ASSIST, T SECURE, T INSPECT and T SMILE, among others.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor is a joint venture between Toyota Motor Corporation of Japan, which holds an 89 percent stake, and Kirloskar Systems Limited of India, which holds the remaining 11 percent. The company operates two manufacturing plants at Bidadi, near Bangalore, with a combined installed production capacity of up to 342,000 units per year. The Innova HyCross is assembled at the first plant alongside the Innova Crysta, Fortuner and Legender.
