Tata Motors has announced that the Nexon EV, the best-selling electric passenger vehicle, has clocked 50,000-unit sales in the domestic market.

Launched on January 28, 2020, the Nexon EV has taken 41 months or just under three-and-a-half years to notch the sales milestone. The sustained demand for the eco-friendly SUV has enabled Tata Motors to become the EV market leader in India and also contributed to the Nexon, which is also available with petrol and diesel engines, to be India’s best-selling SUV.

Nexon EV accounts for 64% of Tata EV sales

Tata Motors, which has an EV portfolio of three models – Nexon EV, Tigor EV/Xpres T and Tiago EV – has sold a total of 70,616 EVs till end-March 2023. Of this, the Tata Nexon EV accounted for 64% of the total, followed by the Tigor EV/Xpres-T (16,759 units / 24%) and Tiago EV (8,358 units / 12%).

On an average, Nexon EV owners are driving around 6.3 million kilometres in a month on intercity and outstation trips ranging from 100km to 400km. The Tata Nexon EV’s sales have also been powered by India’s growing EV charging infrastructure, which has seen a growth of over 1,500% between FY2021 and FY2023. At present, there are over 6,000 charging stations in the country.

The Nexon EV, which contributes up to 15% to the total Nexon brand sales, is available in Prime, Max, and #Dark variants, with prices starting from Rs 14.49 lakh.
