Tata Motors Showcases Production-Ready Harrier EV

Tata Motors showcased a production-ready version of its upcoming Harrier EV, indicating that the company may soon launch the model in the market.

The model was first showcased at the Bharat Mobility Show 2025. The company demonstrated various maneuvers with the model on a test track in Pune. However, it did not disclose the detailed specifications or pricing.

It, however, showed off the use of automation and robotics in the production of the Harrier.

Tata Motors has been instrumental in spearheading India's electric vehicle (EV) revolution, significantly shaping the country's EV ecosystem. The company has not only focused on manufacturing electric vehicles but has also invested in building a comprehensive infrastructure to support EV adoption. With a market share of over 70% in the electric four-wheeler segment as of mid last year. Key to Tata's strategy has been the development of innovative EV models that cater to diverse consumer needs.

The Tata Nexon EV stands out as one of India's best-selling electric SUVs, known for its impressive range and performance, making it a popular choice among eco-conscious consumers. The Tata Tiago EV has also made significant inroads with its affordability and efficiency, appealing to those looking for an entry-level electric hatchback.

Additionally, the Tata Tigor EV has been pivotal in the fleet segment, providing a sustainable solution for commercial use.

However, since September 2024, Tata Motors has experienced a noticeable erosion in its market share, particularly in the electric vehicle (EV) segment.

This decline can be attributed to several factors including intensified competition from rivals like MG Motor, who introduced models like the MG Windsor, challenging Tata's dominance in the EV market.

Additionally, the expiry of the FAME 2 subsidy led to a decline in fleet volumes, impacting sales figures.

Market dynamics have also shifted with consumer preferences leaning towards newer models with advanced features, where Tata has faced criticism. To counteract this trend, Tata Motors is focusing on expanding its product lineup with innovative and appealing models.

It recently released the Tata Curvv EV, aimed at capturing the burgeoning SUV market with its sleek design and advanced tech features.

The Tata Harrier is also part of this plan.

At the same time, the company is reportedly not very keen on emulating MG Motors BaaS strategy.
