Tata Motors Files 250 Patents and 148 Design Applications in FY25

Tata Motors has filed 250 patents and 148 design applications in FY25, marking its highest-ever filings in a single year. The applications span product and process innovations, aligning with automotive trends such as Connectivity, Electrification, Sustainability, and Safety (CESS), as well as emerging technologies including Hydrogen-Based Vehicles and Fuel Cells. Additionally, the filings cover critical vehicle systems, such as battery, powertrain, suspension, brakes, body and trim, HVAC, and emission control.

The company also filed 81 copyright applications and secured 68 patent grants during the year, bringing its total granted patents to 918. These filings highlight Tata Motors’ ongoing efforts to enhance vehicle performance, develop new mobility solutions, and contribute to industry advancements.

Commenting on the achievement, Rajendra Petkar, President and Chief Technology Officer at Tata Motors, said, “Our innovation strategy is focused on delivering sustained value to customers while staying ahead of the industry shifts. This milestone reflects our continued pursuit of automotive excellence and reinforces our long-term vision of manufacturing greener, safer, and more efficient vehicles.”

Tata Motors also received five accolades in FY25 for its contributions to intellectual property rights (IPR) in India and internationally. According to the company, it aims to continue investing in technology and innovation as part of its broader vision of shaping the future of mobility.

The company has developed various technologies, including electric and hydrogen-based vehicles, alongside advancements in safety and emission control systems. It has consistently filed patents and design applications related to automotive innovation.These filings are part of its research and development efforts in response to industry changes.
