Tata Motors Begins Deliveries of 148 Starbus EVs to BMTC in Bengaluru
The new batch of EVs adds to Bengaluru’s growing electric bus fleet, aiming to expand sustainable public transport across the city under a long-term operations contract with Tata Motors’ mobility subsidiary.
Tata Motors has commenced the delivery of 148 Starbus electric buses to the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC), further expanding the city’s electric public transport network. This delivery builds on the 921 electric buses already operating in Bengaluru.
The fleet will be operated and maintained by TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Motors, under a 12-year contract.
The buses were flagged off by Karnataka’s Transport Minister, Ramalinga Reddy, and Ramachandran R., IAS, Managing Director of BMTC, in the presence of senior government and BMTC officials.
Ramachandran stated that the Tata electric buses currently in service have delivered consistent performance and passenger satisfaction. He added that the new buses will help BMTC improve service availability across more areas of Bengaluru.
Anand S, Vice President and Head of TML Smart City Mobility Ltd. and Commercial Passenger Vehicle Business at Tata Motors, noted that the previous fleet had collectively covered over six crore kilometres. He affirmed the company’s continued support for BMTC’s efforts to expand sustainable mobility in the city.
The Starbus EVs are designed for city operations and come with features like a low-floor layout, seating for 35 passengers, and systems such as Electronic Stability Control and Electronic Brake Distribution. The buses are fully electric, contributing to reduced tailpipe emissions and cleaner urban air.
Tata Motors, part of the $165 billion Tata Group, is a major global vehicle manufacturer with a presence in both commercial and passenger segments. It continues to invest in electric mobility solutions and collaborates with government and industry stakeholders to support India’s EV transition.
