It’s no secret that Royal Enfield is due to launch the Shotgun 650 and the recently filed government homologation documents give us an idea of how big the bike will be.

The Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 is based on the same platform as the new Super Meteor 650 and will be a sister product with more street bike ergonomics. Now, a new homologation document reveals that the Shotgun 650 will be shorter (2,170mm vs 2,260mm) and narrower (820mm vs 890mm) than the Super Meteor 650. Crucially, the wheelbase is also reduced by 35mm to 1,465mm from 1,500mm, however, this may also be influenced by different wheel sizes.

One area where the Shotgun has gained is in height – 1,105mm vs 1,155mm. These differences are to be expected as the Super Meteor is meant to be a long and low cruiser, while the Shotgun will be more of a street bike. While the homologation document doesn’t specify this, expect the Shotgun to have a taller seat height than the Super Meteor’s low 740mm. More importantly, it will hopefully have more rear suspension travel than the Super Meteor’s 101mm.

The Shotgun will use the same 648cc parallel twin engine from the Super Meteor and it produces the same 47hp. Expect things like gearing and engine tuning to be the same as well.

Royal Enfield’s next big ticket launch in India is the new-gen Himalayan 450, of which we have just learned some interesting new details – click here to find out more. The Shotgun is likely to launch soon after the Himalayan.
