Priya Kapur, trustee and beneficiary of the RK Family Trust, has issued a formal notice removing Rani Kapur as a trustee, citing conduct “adverse to the interests of the Trust and its beneficiaries” and an alleged breach of fiduciary duties.
The development follows ongoing legal proceedings concerning the validity and administration of the RK Family Trust, which is currently under consideration before the Delhi High Court.
According to the notice dated March 24, 2026, Priya Kapur stated that Rani Kapur’s actions, including challenging the validity of the Trust while simultaneously asserting rights over its assets, were inconsistent with the obligations expected of a trustee. The notice records that Rani Kapur stands removed as trustee with effect from March 25, 2026, and would no longer have authority to act on behalf of the Trust or deal with its assets, administration or records.
The RK Family Trust was settled in 2017 by Rani Kapur as a private irrevocable trust. During his lifetime, her son, the late Sunjay Kapur, was the sole beneficiary. Following his death on June 12, 2025, the beneficial interests under the Trust are understood to have devolved upon his legal heirs in accordance with the Trust Deed.
The dispute appears to have developed earlier this year. On January 10, 2026, Priya Kapur issued a cease-and-desist notice raising concerns over statements and actions that, according to her, questioned the creation and validity of the Trust and asserted personal ownership over its assets.
Subsequently, on January 20, 2026, Rani Kapur filed a civil suit before the Delhi High Court seeking declarations that the Trust is invalid and claiming personal ownership over assets forming part of the Trust corpus. The matter is currently sub judice.
On March 21, 2026, Rani Kapur issued a separate notice purporting to remove Priya Kapur as a trustee under provisions of the Trust Deed. In response, the March 24 notice from Priya Kapur states that such actions, when read alongside the challenge to the Trust itself, amount to a breach of fiduciary obligations under trust law.
The notice further states that any actions taken by Rani Kapur on behalf of the Trust after the effective date of removal would be considered invalid, and that legal remedies remain available in the event of non-compliance.
The matter remains pending before the Delhi High Court, and further developments are expected as proceedings continue.
