Ather Energy and Google Maps collaboration

Ather Energy has entered into a collaboration with Google to provide real-time availability information for two-wheeler fast charging stations to electric vehicle (EV) users. This partnership enables EV users with the Light Electric Combined Charging System (LECCS) connector standard on their two-wheelers to locate Ather Grid fast chargers on Google Maps, complete with live status updates of the chargers.

Ather fast-charging stations, known as Ather Grid, are now discoverable on Google Maps with live status updates. New charger installations will be promptly listed on Google Maps as well. LECCS has been officially recognized as a plug type, allowing users to set it as their default connector or plug type on Google Maps. Consequently, chargers with LECCS will appear in search results for "EV charger near me" or "charging stations" on Google Maps. This feature enables any vehicle equipped with LECCS to locate and utilize Ather fast-charging stations.

Ather Grid's fast-charging network for electric two-wheelers is based on the indigenously developed LECCS, which has been approved for nationwide adoption by the Bureau of Indian Standards. The new standard, launched last year, is regarded in the industry as a significant step towards establishing a universal standard through interoperability, potentially facilitating wider adoption of electric vehicles in India.

As of March 30, 2024, Ather Energy has made 1,973 fast chargers available to the public. The company states its commitment to creating a seamless charging experience for its customers.

The collaboration with Google Maps aligns with Ather's focus on innovation in the EV industry, which the company attributes to its investment in research and development since its establishment in 2013. Ather has introduced several features in the electric two-wheeler market, including a touchscreen dashboard, onboard navigation, fast charging, reverse mode, and a mobile app. More recent integrations include Google Maps navigation, Alexa skills, and WhatsApp notifications in its two-wheelers.

The electric two-wheeler market in India has seen a significant surge in popularity in recent years. Driven by environmental concerns, rising fuel costs, and government incentives, consumers are increasingly turning to electric scooters and motorcycles as viable alternatives to traditional petrol-powered vehicles.

Ather Energy has emerged as a key player in this growing industry. Known for its innovative approach and high-performance electric scooters, the company has carved out a niche in the premium segment. Ather's focus on technology integration, such as touchscreen dashboards and connected features, has helped differentiate its products in a competitive market.

Other major players, including established automotive manufacturers and new startups, are also entering the space, further driving innovation and consumer choice. As charging infrastructure expands and battery technology improves, electric two-wheelers are poised to play a crucial role in India's urban mobility landscape.
