Samvardhana Motherson International Limited has announced that its subsidiary, Motherson Electronic Components Private Limited (MECPL), has been approved as a beneficiary under the Government of India's Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme through the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme (ECMS).

The approval, granted by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), covers the production of enclosures for the consumer electronics industry. MECPL will receive incentives spanning six financial years, from FY 2026 to FY 2031.

The company plans to invest a cumulative Rs 1,900 crores during the investment period at its manufacturing facility in Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu. This expansion is expected to generate over 5,000 employment opportunities at the plant.

Motherson, which operates as a global design, engineering, manufacturing and assembly specialist, serves customers across 425 facilities in 44 countries. While primarily known for its automotive sector presence, the company has diversified into consumer electronics, health and medical, aerospace, logistics, and industrial IT solutions.

The ECMS approval marks a significant step in Motherson's strategy to strengthen domestic manufacturing capabilities in the consumer electronics segment. The company is currently India's largest auto ancillary manufacturer and ranks among the top 15 automotive suppliers globally.

The PLI scheme aims to boost domestic manufacturing and reduce import dependence by providing financial incentives to companies that meet specified production and investment targets.
