MG Motor India wins National Energy Conservation Award 2023

MG Motor India's Halol plant in Gujarat has been honored with the second prize for the National Energy Conservation Award (NECA) 2023, recognising excellence in energy efficiency in the automobile sector.

The award was presented by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, and R.K. Singh, Minister of Power and New and Renewable Energy at a ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi, on December 14, 2023. MG Motor India's CEO-Emeritus, Rajeev Chaba, and Deputy Managing Director, Biju Balendran, received the award on behalf of the company.

The National Energy Conservation Award, driven by the Ministry of Power and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), is a prestigious recognition in the field of energy conservation. The award acknowledges MG Motor India's commitment to green manufacturing practices, with 50% of the energy required for manufacturing operations sourced from renewable resources. The company aims to reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 2 lakh MT over 15 years, equivalent to the positive environmental impact of planting over 13 lakh trees.

MG Motor India has already achieved a notable 36% decrease in CO2 emissions, dropping from 0.59 MT in 2022 to 0.34 MT until November 2023. Projections suggest a continued downward trend, with an estimated carbon footprint reduction of 11,889 MT by the end of this year.
