Mercedes-Benz India on Monday launched the new V-Class luxury MPV at an introductory price of ₹1.4 crore (ex-showroom). The vehicle will be locally manufactured at the company’s Chakan plant in Pune.
Bookings for the V-Class open today, with deliveries scheduled to begin by the end of this month. The company said customers booking at the introductory price will be protected from any near-term price hikes.
Announcing the price, Managing Director and CEO Santosh Iyer said the decision to localise production was aimed at making the vehicle more accessible in India.
“With localisation of this car in India, the introductory price of the new extra-long wheelbase V-Class is ₹1.4 crore,” Iyer said. “We will make this product in Pune, in Chakan. This strategic move reinforces our three-decade commitment to the Indian market.”
He added that without localisation, the vehicle could have been priced closer to ₹1.9-2 crore.
The V-Class becomes the second product to be locally assembled by Mercedes-Benz India in recent months. The company said priority allocation will be given to existing Mercedes-Benz customers.
“We already anticipated strong demand from our own customer base. Allocations will be done on a priority basis to Mercedes-Benz customers,” Iyer said.
Service packages, ownership focus
Mercedes-Benz will offer a three-year standard warranty with the V-Class. Service packages start at ₹90,000 for a two-year plan and go up to ₹3.5 lakh for five years. The company will also offer extended service options of up to 10 years.
“We are not only fixated on product price. It is about the ownership experience,” Iyer said. “We will also offer financial products, residual value guarantee and buyback options.”
Extra-long wheelbase for India
The V-Class introduced in India comes in the extra-long wheelbase version as standard. Globally, the model is offered in multiple wheelbase options.
Vice President – Sales and Marketing Brendon Sissing said the India version has been curated to maximise space and comfort.
“We are introducing the extra-long wheelbase as standard here in India. It is not just about adding length. It is about maximising comfort and space where it truly matters,” he said.
The MPV features an AMG Line exterior with distinctive bumpers and 18-inch alloy wheels. It also comes with multi-beam LED headlamps that automatically adjust light distribution.
The V-Class comes with a spacious six-seat layout. Both second and third rows feature individual seats. For the first time in India, the third row also gets seat ventilation.
“These are not just seats. They are individual cocoons of luxury,” Sissing said. “With seat ventilation and multi-contour massage, every journey becomes a spa-like escape.”
The seats offer more than 40 degrees of recline. They come with heating, ventilation and fold functionality to expand boot space. The cabin features heat-insulating green-tinted glass and sun blinds for added privacy and comfort.
The MPV also gets a Burmester surround sound system with Dolby Atmos, featuring 15 speakers and 640 watts output.
The V-Class offers two engine options. A petrol engine delivers 170 kW of output and is supported by ISG technology that adds an additional 15 kW boost. The diesel variant produces 174 kW.
The vehicle features Airmatic suspension, specially developed for Indian conditions. The system can raise or lower the suspension and adjusts automatically at higher speeds for better efficiency.
“With Airmatic, customers will experience unparalleled ride comfort,” Sissing said. “It glides over diverse road conditions.”
The V-Class comes with seven airbags and a suite of advanced driver assistance systems, including Active Lane Assist and DISTRONIC. The vehicle has an occupant protection score of 93%, the company said.
“The new V-Class is the safest car in its segment,” Sissing said.
Growing luxury van segment
Iyer said the launch comes at a time when demand for private luxury mobility is rising in India.
“This car is truly special and versatile. It is a private suite curated for India,” he said. “We will only bring a car to India if it ticks all the boxes. The V-Class does that.”
With local production, premium positioning and enhanced ownership benefits, Mercedes-Benz is betting that the V-Class will carve out a niche in India’s growing luxury mobility space.
