Matter plans e2Ws across five segments by 2030, including scooters
The planned portfolio will span naked street motorcycles, adventure motorcycles, youth-focused bikes and electric scooters.
Ahmedabad-based electric motorcycle startup Matter Motor plans to expand its product offerings across five two-wheeler segments over the next 3–4 years, including a debut in the fast-growing electric scooter space.
Founded in 2019 by Mohal Lalbhai, Arun Pratap Singh, Saran Babu and Prasad Telikapalli, Matter’s product portfolio currently revolves around a single electric motorcycle — the Aera. Marketed as India’s first electric bike to feature a 4-speed manual gearbox, the Aera is priced at around Rs 1.8 lakh.
Matter has laid out a five-segment expansion roadmap, with all future products built on a common, AI-defined hardware, software, computing and data backbone. The planned portfolio will span naked street motorcycles, another street bike segment, adventure motorcycles, youth-focused bikes and electric scooters.
The company said this portfolio expansion strategy will help it address the majority of India's two-wheeler demand spectrum through a scalable platform.
Beyond Matter, players such as Ola Electric, Revolt and Ultraviolette are already active in the electric motorcycle space, while Ather Energy is preparing to join the segment. The Bengaluru-based startup is developing a dedicated platform, codenamed Zenith, to underpin electric motorcycles aimed at customers in the 125–300cc category.
Among legacy manufacturers, Royal Enfield — through its Flying Flea brand — and Hero MotoCorp, which has partnered with US-based electric motorcycle maker Zero Motorcycles, are also gearing up for an entry into the electric motorcycle market in the near term.
