Maruti Suzuki Sales Decline in June, Exports Hit Record High

Maruti Suzuki India Limited reported total sales of 167,993 units for June 2025, reflecting a year-on-year decline from 179,228 units sold in June 2024. Despite the dip in overall numbers, the company recorded its highest-ever monthly exports, reaching 37,842 units during the month.

Domestic passenger vehicle (PV) sales stood at 118,906 units in June 2025, compared to 137,160 units in the same month last year. Within the domestic market, the mini segment (Alto, S-Presso) accounted for 6,414 units, while the compact segment, comprising popular models like Baleno, Swift, Dzire, WagonR, Ignis, and Celerio, contributed 54,177 units. Combined, mini and compact car sales were 60,591 units, a significant drop from 73,444 units in June 2024.

“The slowdown in passenger vehicle sales is largely due to a sharp decline in the smaller segment cars. Historically, passenger vehicle sales used to grow at 1.5 times the GDP growth. But now even after 6.5% GDP growth, the car market is nearly flattish. This is because the once mass small car segment is not participating in the growth at all. This is clearly an affordability issue. Since 2019, entry-level price point in the industry has jumped by over 70%, largely driven by stricter regulations and the sales of smaller cars have fallen by over 70%", Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer, Corporate Affairs, said.

The mid-size sedan Ciaz posted sales of 1,028 units, up from 572 units a year ago. Total domestic passenger car sales (including mini, compact, and mid-size) stood at 61,619 units, down from 74,016 units last June.

Utility vehicle (UV) sales, including models such as the Brezza, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, Jimny, and XL6, came in at 47,947 units, compared to 52,373 units in June 2024. Meanwhile, van sales (Eeco) reached 9,340 units. Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) sales, primarily comprising the Super Carry, were recorded at 2,433 units.

Including LCVs, total domestic sales amounted to 121,339 units in June 2025, compared to 139,918 units in the same month last year. Sales to other OEMs contributed an additional 8,812 units, slightly up from 8,277 units a year ago.

Cumulatively, for the first quarter of FY 2025–26 (April–June), Maruti Suzuki’s total sales reached 527,861 units, a marginal increase over 521,868 units sold in the same period last fiscal. This includes 402,082 domestic sales, 28,807 units supplied to other OEMs, and 96,972 units exported.
