Maruti Suzuki Production Rises 19.3% in February 2026, Driven by Utility Vehicle Surge

Maruti Suzuki India Limited produced 223,507 vehicles in February 2026, up 19.3% from 187,414 units in February 2025, according to a regulatory filing submitted to the National Stock Exchange and BSE on 1 March 2026. The figures cover total output across passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles at the company's manufacturing plants.

Passenger vehicle production stood at 219,612 units for the month, compared to 183,999 units a year earlier. The utility vehicle segment — comprising models such as the Brezza, Ertiga, e Vitara, Fronx, Jimny, Victoris, and XL6, as well as OEM models — was the primary driver of growth, with output climbing to 102,834 units from 66,647 units in February 2025, a rise of approximately 54%.

The mini and compact passenger car sub-segments, which include the Alto, S-Presso, Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, and WagonR, together produced 103,867 units, a marginal increase from 102,047 units in the same month last year. Notably, the Ciaz mid-size sedan recorded no production in February 2026, compared to 2,900 units a year ago. The Eeco van contributed 12,911 units to the month's tally, and the Super Carry light commercial vehicle accounted for 3,895 units.

The February production data follows a period of sustained demand momentum for the company. In January 2026, Maruti Suzuki reported its highest-ever monthly sales of 236,963 units, with domestic sales of 178,300 units and exports reaching an all-time monthly high of 51,020 units. The January figure represented a rise from 212,251 units sold in January 2025.

Prior to that, Maruti Suzuki recorded its highest-ever monthly retail sales in December 2025 at 286,000 vehicles, with dealer inventories falling to just three days' supply and pending bookings standing at 175,000 units. Wholesale volumes for December stood at 217,854 units, up 22% from the prior year.

The February production numbers — released as a wholesale dispatch figure — are lower than both December and January volumes, consistent with the shorter calendar month and the normal cadence of output planning. February has 28 days in non-leap years, and manufacturers typically adjust production schedules accordingly.

For the October–December 2025 quarter, the company posted its highest-ever quarterly sales of 537,433 units, a 22.2% increase year-on-year. The utility vehicle segment's continued growth in production reflects a structural shift in India's passenger vehicle market, where SUVs and multi-purpose vehicles have progressively displaced traditional hatchbacks and sedans as the dominant purchase category. Maruti Suzuki, which had a relatively modest UV portfolio for much of the past decade, has moved to address this with successive launches including the Fronx, Jimny, and the recently added e Vitara electric SUV.

For the April-to-January period of fiscal year 2025–26, Maruti Suzuki's cumulative total sales across all segments and markets reached 1,983,467 units. The company holds the largest share of India's passenger vehicle market and has approximately 4,000 dealer outlets across the country.
