Maruti Suzuki India Limited has expanded its automated driving test infrastructure in Tamil Nadu, commissioning seven Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) at Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) across the state. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin inaugurated the facilities via video conferencing on February 27, 2026.

The seven tracks are located at RTOs in Coimbatore (Central), Tiruvannamalai, Krishnagiri, Madurai (North), Sivagangai, Dindigul, and Tiruchirappalli (West). Three additional tracks — at Tirunelveli, Tuticorin, and Marthandam — are expected to become operational soon, completing the company's commitment of ten ADTTs under a Memorandum of Agreement with the Tamil Nadu Transport Department. The company says all ten were automated within 150 days of signing the agreement.

The tracks are equipped with high-definition cameras, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) sensors, face-recognition technology, real-time analytics, and Harnessing AutoMobiles for Safety (HAMS) technology. The system generates test results automatically, with no human intervention in the evaluation process. Testing covers both Two-Wheeler (TW) and Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) license applicants and is conducted in accordance with Central Motor Vehicle Rules (CMVR).

Rahul Bharti, Senior Executive Officer for Corporate Affairs at Maruti Suzuki, cited road safety data as context for the initiative, noting that India recorded 1.77 lakh road accident deaths in 2024, according to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. He said the tracks are designed to eliminate bias and ensure that licenses are issued only to drivers who meet the required standard.

Nationally, Maruti Suzuki has now commissioned 56 ADTTs across eight states: Uttar Pradesh (17), Delhi (14), Tamil Nadu (10), Bihar (7), Uttarakhand (4), Haryana (2), Chhattisgarh (1), and Jammu & Kashmir (1). Agreements have also been signed with Rajasthan for 21 additional tracks and Andhra Pradesh for four, which would bring the total to 81 ADTTs across the country.

Beyond automated test tracks, the company operates eight Institutes of Driving and Traffic Research (IDTRs) and 23 Road Safety Knowledge Centres (RSKCs) in partnership with state governments. It also runs Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) projects in selected areas and offers First Responder training to commercial drivers as part of its broader road safety programme, which the company frames around five areas: Engineering, Education, Evaluation, Enforcement, and Emergency Care.
