Kia India Crosses One Lakh Paid Renewals for Connected Car Subscription Service
Retention rate surpasses 30% as Kia Connect transitions from a complimentary offering to a paid subscription model, signalling sustained consumer demand for in-vehicle connectivity in India.
Kia India has recorded over 100,000 paid subscription renewals for its Kia Connect connected car platform, the automaker announced on Tuesday. The milestone reflects a retention rate of more than 30% among subscribers whose complimentary three-year access period has expired, indicating that a notable share of customers are opting to continue paying for the service.
Originally launched in 2019 under the name UVO, Kia Connect has undergone several iterations since its introduction and currently bundles more than 100 features across navigation, remote vehicle control, vehicle management, convenience functions, and safety and security tools. Capabilities include over-the-air software updates, digital key access, connected navigation, surround-view monitoring, and multilingual voice recognition.
Kia India's Senior Vice President for Sales and Marketing, Atul Sood, attributed the renewal figures to everyday utility delivered through the platform. In a statement released with the announcement, Sood noted that the continued adoption beyond the complimentary period reflected the practical value customers derive from features centred on convenience, safety, and vehicle control.
The subscription is available in three tiers, Standalone, Basic, and Premium, with pricing options spanning one, two, and three-year durations. Annual pricing begins at INR 1,890 for the Standalone plan and goes up to INR 9,090 for a three-year Premium subscription.
The company separately disclosed that cumulative connected car sales in India have surpassed 500,000 units. Kia India currently operates a distribution network spanning 821 touchpoints across 369 cities and has dispatched approximately 1.5 million vehicles from its manufacturing facility in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, since production commenced in August 2019.
The renewal figures arrive as automakers globally pursue recurring revenue streams through software and connectivity subscriptions. Kia's parent company, Hyundai Motor Group, has reported enrolment rates for connected services of approximately 97% globally, though paid retention metrics of the kind announced for India are less frequently disclosed.
Kia India, a subsidiary of South Korea's Kia Corporation, sells nine models in the Indian market including the Seltos, Sonet, Carens, Syros, and the electric EV6 and EV9. The automaker positions itself in the mass-premium segment and has been among the more active players in promoting connected features as a differentiator in the domestic market.
